Area of interest

Physical and chemical processes of molecular gas in star-forming regions of our galaxy. Radio observations, spectroscopy, and imaging with ALMA. 1-D and 3-D radiation transport for modeling molecular lines. Kinematics of molecular gas in fragmentation and contraction processes of dense gas nuclei, accretion from the cloud to the envelope and protostellar disks; ejection of bipolar winds and their impact on the host cloud. Formation of complex molecules, use of astrochemical models to evaluate observed molecular abundances. Creation and use of public data using virtual observatory platforms.

Biography

Bachelor's degree in Physics and Master's degree in Astronomy, University of Chile. PhD in Astronomy from Harvard University in 1998, thesis on "Signatures of Infall in Regions of Low Mass Star Formation" with Dr. Phil Myers. Faculty member at the University of Chile since 1998 with research stays at the Center for Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics (CRyA, UNAM, Mexico) 2008-09, Yale University (USA) 2009, and the Center for Astrochemistry of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE, Munich, Germany) 2018-19. Characterization of dense gas in early regions of massive star formation using SEST and APEX telescopes, including graduate students Chavarría, Escala, Morales, Muñoz, Olguin, Pineda, and Silva with Prof. Garay. Study of multiple ejections in protostellar wind from HH46/47 with ALMA in collaboration with Prof. Arce and Dr. Zhang. Quantum chemistry models for the formation of complex molecules with Prof. Inostroza and Dr. Ge. Creation of the Chilean Virtual Observatory (ChiVO) with UTFSM. Founding partner of Sochias. Creation of the Bachelor's Degree in Astronomy.
