Biography
Bachelor of Astronomy, 1971 University of Chile and Ph.D. in Astrophysics 1975 at Princeton University, USA. In 1976 she completed a postdoctoral degree at the Trieste Astronomical Observatory, Italy, and between 1977 and 1979 she was a visiting astronomer at the Institute of Astronomy at UNAM (Mexico).
Since 1980, she has been an academic (Full Professor) of the Astronomy Department of the FCFM of the University de Chile. Since 2008 she is a Director of the Center for Excellence in Astrophysics and Associated Technologies (CATA). President of the Superior Commission of Academic Evaluation of the Universidad de Chile.
Since 1997 she has been a full member of the Chilean Academy of Sciences of the Institute of Chile and between 2016 and 2019 she was President of the same Academy. Between 2000 and 2004 she was Director of the Department of Astronomy at the Universidad de Chile. It participates in multiple Boards and committees at national and international level related to science, education and culture.
