Areas of interest

I study the jets of active galactic nuclei with the goal of understanding the mechanisms responsible for their high energy emission. My main tools are radio telescopes, and I have interest and experience in several aspects, like instrumentation, commissioning and telescope operations. Besides radio astronomy, I have experience in gamma-ray astronomy, applied statistics, time series analysis and optimization for telescope scheduling.

Biography

Before taking the position of assistant professor of astronomy at U. de Chile I was a postdoctoral researcher at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, Socorro, New Mexico, USA and at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy, Bonn, Germany. I have undergraduate degrees in Astronomy (BSc) and Electrical Engineering (BSc and Engineer) all from Universidad de Chile and hold MSc and PhD degrees in astrophysics from the California Institute of Technology.
